At Sāvatthi.
OK then a certain almsmen approached there where the exalted one was. Having approached the exalted one they greeted together. Having exchanged the cordially howdy greet he sat down at one end. OK, at one end seated he, the almsman, said this to the exalted one:
'Members of enlightenment, members of enlightenment', venerable, they are called. OK now in what respect, venerable, are they called 'members of enlightenment'?'
'OK thus they lead to enlightenment, almsman, from that they are called 'members of enlightenment'. Here an almsman cultivates meditation ... discernment of principles ... vigour ... pleasantness ... relaxation ... concentration ... objectivity as a member of enlightenment relying on withdrawal, relying on fading, relying on cessation, resulting in waivering. Therefor these seven members of enlightenment are being from where mind is emancipated also from the draining of lust, mind is emancipated also from the draining of becoming, mind is emancipated also from the draining of not knowing. Upon emancipation, thus emancipated, the knowledge is. He fathoms 'Birth is barren, the clergy conduct spent, done is what ought to be done, no further gain of presence'.
Thus leading to enlightenment, almsman, from that they are called 'member of enlightenment'.'
